Not only is this book a guide to locating and climbing a waterfall, but it also brings to the reader’s attention the lives around it and how they work with each other within the ecosystem. The plants that the waterfall takes care of, the animals that depend on its presence, and the beauty it provides, which inspires humans to create.

The illustrations by Thomas Locker are breathtaking and, thankfully, take up the entirety of every page to be enjoyed. In every few pictures, there are animals to search for, making the pages feel like a treasure hunt as the reader finds each creature.

Barefoot, with her hair in a ponytail, the reader follows the little girl featured in the illustrations who tackles this big adventure by herself, learning from everyone and everything she comes across. With her, you swim in a trout pool, look with an artist, listen with a writer, and climb a waterfall, absorbing every part of her journey in a new way.
